The Raytown High School theater department has been working on their next show “SIX: The Musical Teen Edition”. Cast and crew have spent the last three months preparing for the show. RHS is one of the first high schools in the country to produce this show. Two cast members from the show explained the story of the musical, what to expect when people come see the show, as well as their favorite part about their role and being a part of the musical.

“‘SIX’ is basically the six wives of Henry the Eighth,” junior Reiko Groves said. “They are all modernized, and they’re all in a pop girl group, and they're trying to figure out who should be the leading lady. We all tell our lives through a modern pop song.”

Groves went more into depth about her character and her favorite part about playing Catherine Parr, Henry the Eighth’s last wife.

“In her time she was a poet, she wrote meditation, and she learned to read, which is a huge deal for women at that time,” Groves said. “Just like how liberated and how she was a leading figure for women in those times and bringing that into my character is so cool to me.”

Senior Amiya Jimmerson explained her favorite part as Anne Boleyn, the second wife of King James the Eighth.

“I like the fact that she's kind of a wildcat, but in a way that’s comfortable enough for me to play,” Jimmerson said. “She's very energetic and I’m energetic in a way, she's just a little more bolder than me, but I like the fact that she's able to go with the flow as much as I am.”

Jimmerson explained what to expect when people first come to see the show for those who have never seen “SIX” before.

“It’s definitely a different experience compared to most shows since it’s an actual concert theme, so it’s definitely very upbeat,” Jimmerson said.

Groves also explained what to expect.

“Be loud with your reactions,” Groves said. “Usually with musicals you can't do that, but with this one the audience is like the seventh wife. There are specific lines for the audience to react to.”

The show premieres on Friday, February 22nd at 7:00 p.m. so be sure to come see the show!
